Welcome!

The following posts are written by students in response to the novel and are in the format of a post card written by the main character, Sam. Leaving Home

It's time to set on on my own. I'm leaving New York with just a penknife, a ball of cord, an ax, some flint and steel, and 40 bucks. It doesn't sound like much, but I have more determination than your likely to find in another boy my age. I'm headed to the Catskills to a land that is mine by birthright. Somewhere out there is an old beech tree with the name Gribley carved in it, and I'm going to find it.

Just so the folks at home don't get too worried, I'll keep you posted about my progress. Look for updates about my life, adventures and misadventures here. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

To the Catskills!
